20 May 2010: Year of the Lung launched in Moldova
On the 20th of May State Medical and Pharmaceutical University Nicolae Testemitanu was the host for the conference. It was divided into 2 sessions:
- Respiratory medicine,
- Conference dedicated to launch of Year of the Lung in Republic of Moldova,
which presupposes a special focus on the public health. Useful booklets about Year of the Lung were distributed, promotional materials of ERS were offered in order people could get better informed about the subject matter of the meeting. There was made the presentation of our official facebook group Year of the Lung, which was created by Alexandru Corlateanu (Moldova) and Gloria Montanari (Italy), today this group includes more than 2,500 members from all over the world.
Furthermore Alexandru Corlateanu made a presentation of European Respiratory Society with new membership structure; especially he paid attention to the Silver membership which is absolutely free of charge for persons under 35 years. Such kind of membership can be of great interest for Moldavian students and young doctors, as they can have access to various materials and useful sources.
Besides three actual topics of respiratory medicine considered of global importance were covered, for instance, COPD, IPF and AH1N1 Influenzae associated pneumonia.
The coordinators were pleased to answer the questions and tried to maintain the discussion about public awareness which is not well developed, and namely this lack damages the research in lung diseases.
The public consisted of young doctors and students from Republic of Moldova and Romania who remained quite content with the introduced information and got concerned with combat of lung diseases.
There were no financial partners to support the action; the main actions were carried out by Alexandru Corlateanu - National Delegate of ERS for Moldova, Oxana Munteanu and other members of European Respiratory Society from Republic of Moldova.
It is beyond all doubt that the conference had an impact on the audience; it encouraged the active participation in such kind of events and appealed to the main aim - to promote public awareness and to draw particular attention to the respiratory diseases treatment.
